House Oversight Committee: ‘We have found a $200,000 direct payment to Joe Biden’

Rep. Comer said the committee found a payment to the president that raises new questions about his possible involvement in the Biden family's "shady" business dealings.

The House Oversight Committee has posted a video on X, formerly Twitter, in which Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) states that the panel found evidence that President Joe Biden received a "direct payment of $200,000" from his brother James Biden and his sister-in-law Sara Biden in 2018.

The discovery occurs in the midst of the committee’s investigations into the president's family allegedly having benefited from their connection to Joe Biden, who at that time was vice president, and the possibility that the president has received money from those dealings.

Rep. Comer begins the video by recalling that when Biden was asked about ongoing investigations into his family's business and the possibility that he may have benefitted from it, the president responded "Where is the money?" Comer continues the video by stating that they have found something and that the document they revealed today about the direct transfer to the president's account raises new questions about how President Biden personally benefited from his family's "shady" business dealings.

Comer demands that the president answer questions about "financial arrangements" with members of his family. One of the main objectives of the Republicans’ investigation is to find out if the current president participated directly in his family's businesses or "personally benefited" from them.

The Republican representative claims in the video that the check was issued by James Biden to President Biden as a "loan repayment," but Comer explains that in 2018, James Biden "received $600,000 in loans from Americore, a financially distressed and failing rural hospital operator." Additionally, "According to bankruptcy court documents, James Biden received these loans based upon representations that his last name Biden, could open doors; and that he could obtain a large investment from the Middle East based on his political connections."

"On March 1, 2018, Americore wired a $200,000 loan into James and Sara Biden’s personal bank account, not their business bank account ... And then, on the very same day, James Biden wrote a $200,000 check from this same personal bank account to Joe Biden."

The chairman of the House Oversight Committee said that even if the payment was due to a personal loan repayment, "It’s still troubling that Joe Biden’s ability to be paid back by his brother depended on the success of his family’s shady financial dealings."

"Some immediate questions President Biden must answer for the American people: Does he have documents proving he lent such a large sum of money to his brother and what were the terms of such financial arrangement?"

"Did he have similar financial arrangements with other family members that led them to make similar large payments to him?" Comer continued.

The congressman also stated that the House Oversight Committee will soon announce further investigative actions and will continue to follow the money. "The bank records don’t end here. There is more to come."
