Ron DeSantis continues on his path to reelection, marking distances with his Democratic rivals. A poll by the University of North Florida revealed that the governor is far ahead - seven and eight points, respectively - of Nikki Fried and Charlie Crist, who lead the Democratic voting prospects.
The Hispanic support for Governor DeSantis is especially noteworthy. The poll indicated that the Republican governor would get 55% of the Hispanic vote in Florida if the election were held right now, a 20-point lead over Crist and Fried. Both barely attaining 35% of the Latino vote.
DeSantis not only wins the Hispanic vote but also wins the community's approval. The poll showed that 59% of Hispanics approve of the Florida governor's job.
One of the issues the poll reflected is that of voting intention for either DeSantis or Donald Trump should they both run for president in 2024. In this case, it appears that Florida's Hispanic voters choose the former president. 57% would vote for Trump versus 35% who would vote for Ron DeSantis.
DeSantis wants to attract the Hispanic vote
With an eye on the midterm elections next November, Ron DeSantis is well aware of the importance of the Hispanic vote for re-election. That's why the Florida governor addressed the Hispanic-American voter directly in his latest campaign commercial. The advertisement is entirely in Spanish and is titled 'Libre' (Free).
The ad presents the state of Florida as the gateway to the 'American dream', giving a voice to Hispanics in Miami who are grateful for the governor's efforts. "I support Governor DeSantis because he understands all cultures in Florida," said one fan. "Governor DeSantis is protecting all parental rights," added another Floridian voter.
