Four people shot to death in Cancun's downtown tourist area

All were Mexican nationals and were attacked in front of the Fiesta Americana Condesa hotel last Monday, just after the start of Holy Week.

The Attorney General's Office of the state of Quintana Roo, released a report yesterday on the arrest of two people related to the murder of four Mexican citizens last Monday in the middle of Cancun's tourist center. Police were dispatched to the scene, which was located on the beach in front of the Fiesta Americana Condesa hotel, located at kilometer 16.5 of Boulevard Kukulcan, after being alerted that gunshots had been heard at the site. Three corpses were found on the beach, and a fourth was found nearby in some bushes.

The Prosecutor's Office ordered an investigation into the incident and deployed an extensive security operation in the area that resulted in the arrest of two suspects. Investigations are ongoing and authorities continuing their search to determine the possibilty of other collaborators in this tragic event.

On the occasion of the Easter vacations, the State Government launched a special security plan that includes the deployment of more than 5,000 marines, military, National Guard and local police. Authorities estimate that more than 1,250,000 tourists will visit Cancun during Easter Week.
