FDA issues notice on recall of contaminated frozen vegetables from Twin City Foods

The move was due to concerns that these products are contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released a statement announcing the recall of bags of frozen vegetables sold at Food Lion and Kroger over fears they may be contaminated with potentially harmful bacteria.

According to the agency, Twin City Foods is voluntarily recalling a limited amount of super-sweet cut corn and quick-frozen mixed vegetables due to concerns that these products are contaminated with Listeria Monocytogenes.

"Listeria monocytogenes is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems." the FDA said.

In addition, the administration explained that people may suffer short-term symptoms, such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. They explained that listeria infection can lead to miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

"Consumers who have purchased the affected product are urged not to consume the product and immediately return the product to the store where they purchased it for a full refund," the FDA said.

Despite the alert, the Food and Drug Administration said that, to date, there has been no information from consumers who have reported any cases or other complaints associated with the product.
