Video reveals largest Hamas tunnel in Gaza 400 meters from Erez humanitarian crossing
The tunnel is wide enough to allow vehicles to pass through, the IDF reported.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) shared a video showing the "biggest Hamas tunnel" ever discovered.
IDF Lieutenant Colonel Richard Hecht reported this Sunday that the army found a tunnel near the Erez border crossing. This underground is much larger than those that have been exposed so far. In fact, it is so wide that it even allows vehicles to enter easily.
"Hamas has persistently and deliberately invested enormous amounts of money and resources into terrorist tunnels that serve only one purpose - attacking the State of Israel and its residents. This strategic attack tunnel network, large enough to drive vehicles through," Hecht revealed.
The construction of the tunnel
According to the IDF statement, the construction of this underground labyrinth was supervised and directed by Muhammed Sinwar, brother of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar. The tunnel is more than 4 kilometers long and is divided into other underground systems.
"Its entrance is located only 400 meters (1,310 feet) from the Erez Crossing—used by Gazans on a daily basis to enter Israel for work and medical treatment in Israeli hospitals," the IDF reported.
"For Hamas, attacking the people of Israel continues to take priority over supporting the people of Gaza," Hecht said.
In the video shared by the IDF, Hamas members are seen building, traveling and maintaining this massive tunnel. The images also show how the terrorists were drilling underground to expand the underground passage, incorporating wells for electrical and plumbing work.
After finding this tunnel, the Israeli army assured that it will continue to use advanced operational, intelligence and technological means to locate and disintegrate Hamas' system of underground passages throughout the Gaza Strip.
