U.S. requests extradition of Ovidio Guzman for the third time

The United States has again requested the Mexican Attorney General's Office to extradite Ovidio Guzmán, son of the famous drug trafficker Joaquín El Chapo Guzmán, to prosecute him for cocaine, marijuana and methamphetamine trafficking offenses. Official sources told CNN that the U.S. Government had until March 5 to file an appeal.
Ovidio Guzmán, known as El Ratón, was arrested by Mexican officers on January 5 in Culiacán Rosales, Sinaloa. In the operation, 10 Mexican soldiers and 19 members of the Sinaloa Cartel were killed.
Following his arrest, authorities held him at Camp 1, one of Mexico's most renowned military bases, until he was sent to the Altiplano maximum security prison, where he is currently being held. After the operation, serious altercations broke out in the streets of Culiacán.
This is the third attempt by the U.S. government to extradite Ovidio Guzmán. The first was unsuccessful a few hours after the arrest. Two weeks later, Alfonso Alexander Lopez, a Mexican federal judge, temporarily suspended the drug trafficker's second extradition attempt.
