(AFP) A clutch 10th-inning hit from Venezuelan Jackson Chourio secured the Milwaukee Brewers' 3–2 win against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday, further deepening the slump of the defending MLB champions.

The Dodgers had strung together six straight losses, their longest losing streak since April 2019, after being swept in back-to-back three-game series by the Houston Astros and Milwaukee Brewers.

This week marked the first time the Dodgers lost a series in Milwaukee without winning a single game.

Colombian pitcher José Quintana turned in a strong six-inning performance against the Los Angeles Angels, allowing just two hits and one run while striking out four.

The scoreboard at American Family Field stayed blank until the fifth inning, when Japanese star Shohei Ohtani drew a walk that brought Venezuelan Miguel Rojas home for the Dodgers’ first run.

Rojas drove in Los Angeles’ second run in the seventh inning, but the Brewers tied it in the bottom of the ninth on an RBI single by Andrew Vaughn.

The home team completed the sweep with a 10th-inning walk-off single by rookie Jackson Chourio, driving in Sal Frelick for the winning run.

"It was an incredible moment," said the 21-year-old slugger from Maracaibo. "I'm happy we were able to finish the sweep with that hit. It's special. We have a great group of guys here."

For the Dodgers, Ohtani drove in a run and drew two walks in his three at-bats.

Despite the slump, the World Series champions still lead the NL West division with a 56-38 record.

In Detroit, Mexico’s Jonathan Aranda recorded three hits and scored a run as the Tampa Bay Rays defeated the Tigers 7–3.

Another Mexican player, Isaac Paredes (Houston Astros), celebrated being named to Tuesday’s All-Star Game as a replacement for Dominican José Ramírez for the Cleveland Guardians.

"It's a nice thing, something I have to be very proud of, to be able to represent the team and represent myself as a player," Paredes said.

Elsewhere, the Toronto Blue Jays saw their 10-game winning streak come to an end with a 2-1 loss to the Chicago White Sox.
