America and the Galaxy advanced to the quarterfinals of the CONCACAF Champions Cup on Wednesday, with dominant wins over Guadalajara and Herediano, respectively. Meanwhile, Spain's Sergio Ramos' Monterrey was eliminated by Vancouver Whitecaps.
Mexican club Monterrey was eliminated after tying 2-2 at home against Vancouver of Canada at Corona Stadium in Torreón.
Monterrey took a 1-0 lead in the 4th minute when Spaniard Sergio Canales controlled the ball in the box and scored with a precise cross-shot.
In the 56th minute, the Vancouver Whitecaps orchestrated a play from their own half that ended in a 1-1 draw, with Colombian Édier Ocampo scoring a cross-shot in the box.
The Canadian team's 2-1 lead came in the 78th minute when American Brian White scored in front of Argentine goalkeeper Esteban Andrada.
Monterrey's imminent elimination sparked frustration among their fans, many of whom began to leave the stadium before the final whistle. Those who remained shouted a homophobic chant at goalkeeper Isaac Boehmer’s final clearances.
In stoppage time, at 90+6, Monterrey managed to equalize 2-2 with a penalty kick taken by Spaniard Sergio Ramos.
The tie ended in a 3-3 aggregate draw, and Vancouver advanced to the quarterfinals on away goals.
Vancouver's next opponent will be the winner of the Costa Rica's Alajuelense vs. Mexico's Pumas match, which will be decided on Thursday.
Coming from behind to win
At the Ciudad de los Deportes stadium in Mexico City, América triumphed 4-0 over Guadalajara, clinching a 4-1 aggregate score.
In the 5th minute, Uruguayan Brian Rodríguez gave América a 1-0 lead with a left-footed cross-shot inside the box.
In the 45th minute, Chilean Diego Valdés doubled América's lead to 2-0, finishing off an assist from Rayito Rodríguez in front of goal.
In the 65th minute, El Rayito provided another assist, this time setting up Alejandro Zendejas, who finished in the six-yard box to make it 3-0.
The 4-0 score was sealed by Spain's Álvaro Fidalgo, who fired a shot from the edge of the box.
At the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California, the LA Galaxy of the United States beat Costa Rica's Herediano 4-1, securing a 4-2 aggregate victory.
In the 30th minute, Argentine Julián Aude gave the Galaxy a 1-0 lead with a left-footed shot inside the box.
In the 38th minute, Spain's Miguel Berry extended the Galaxy's lead to 2-0 with a close-range finish.

Cruz Azul defeated Seattle Sounders 4-1 at the Olímpico Universitario stadium in Mexico City, advancing with a 4-1 aggregate score.
Tigres came from behind at the Estadio Universitario de Nuevo León to defeat FC Cincinnati 3-1, securing a 4-2 aggregate victory.
LAFC lost 2-1 away to Columbus Crew at Lower.com Field but advanced with a 4-2 aggregate win.
América-Cruz Azul and Tigres-Galaxy are confirmed for the quarterfinals.
