Bernabéu to host Miami Dolphins for historic NFL game in Spain

The Miami Dolphins will be one of the teams playing the first-ever NFL game in Spain, specifically at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium in Madrid. Their opponent will be made known in the coming months.

The news was confirmed by Real Madrid, owner of the stadium, and by the U.S. franchise itself through a fun video featuring Dolphins player Tua Tagovailoa and Real Madrid player Vinícius Júnior.

On the sidelines of the release, officials and delegates from Real Madrid, the NFL and the Dolphins held a presentation ceremony at the stadium attended by local authorities from the Spanish capital, such as its mayor, José Luis Martínez-Almeida.

"For us it is a great honor that a competition of the prestige and greatness of the NFL has chosen the Bernabéu to become its own home. The NFL will be the great protagonist of an event that will travel around the world. And it will do so in a Bernabéu that has been transformed to be able to experience these emotions and to continue to be a global stadium," said Florentino Pérez, president of Real Madrid during the ceremony.

Perez's words were joined by Pri Shumate, executive vice president and global chief marketing officer of the Miami Dolphins, who thanked the team for providing the venue: "It is an honor for the Miami Dolphins to play in this iconic stadium. We couldn't be happier to play the first NFL game in Spain in this iconic stadium."

For his part, Brett Gosper, NFL delegate for Europe and Asia-Pacific, showed his enthusiasm for the competition to be able to play at the Santiago Bernabéu: "We are thrilled to be able to play at the Bernabéu. Thank you very much for being our partners in our adventure."

The NFL game to be played in Spain will be one of eight duels to be held outside U.S. borders. The decision is aimed at expanding the league's brand and gaining fans around the world.
