The Los Angeles Lakers were presented with an exciting opportunity this season, something that was evident for much of the season. Something that was reflected for much of the season so far. However, recent performances have put the team into a phase of doubt and criticism. The latest blow came in a loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder (101-93), marking their fourth defeat in the last five games and resulting in their elimination from the NBA Cup—a tournament they had won just last season.

The Thunder took advantage of the numerous mistakes made by the Los Angeles Lakers and the poor performance of the home team at the Crypto.com Arena. It was a fateful night, perfectly reflected in the numbers posted by the Lakers' two stars: Anthony Davis and LeBron James.

David, the leader of this franchise, who is likely playing his final season as a professional athlete, scored just 12 points. Meanwhile, James, despite finishing with a double-double (15 points and 12 rebounds), did not display his usual dominance on the court.

Davis's weakness was exploited by Isaiah Hartenstein, who pulled down a season-high with 11 points and 18 rebounds, showcasing a clear defensive superiority. However, the player who stood out the most was Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. The Canadian, Oklahoma's star player, sealed the Lakers' fate with 36 points. Jalen Williams (19 points) and Luguentz Dort (14 points) also contributed to the scoring.

Cavs transform in NBA Cup; Tatum's recital

Another team exiting the NBA Cup is the Cleveland Cavaliers, the standout surprise of the year. The Cavaliers suffered a tough defeat to the Atlanta Hawks (117-101) just two days after beating them in the regular season.

While Trae Young was the key figure in the Hawks' victory, recording a double-double with 21 points and 11 assists, it was the collective effort of the entire roster that stood out. On the Cavaliers' side, Darius Garland led the way with 29 points, and Evan Mobley delivered a strong double-double performance with 24 points and 12 rebounds.

Jayson Tatum gave the Chicago Bulls a run for their money, leading his team to victory. The Boston Celtics's star scored 35 points and made 14 rebounds against the Chicago Bulls (129-138). Payton Pritchard scored 29 points and Jaylen Brown added 21 points.
