One of the best centers in the NBA and one of the most outstanding basketball players of this campaign could see his aspirations to be named Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the regular season in jeopardy. In the last game against the Golden State Warriors, Joel Embiid was injured after one of his rivals fell on his leg. The Philadelphia 76ers player had to retire to the locker room while showing clear signs of pain.

At the end of the match, 76ers coach Nick Nurse explained that Embiid will undergo different medical tests to find out the extent of his injury and how long he will be out.

Embiid is among the favorites to be named MVP of the regular season - an award he already won in the 2022-2023 season - but this last-minute setback makes his appointment difficult. The NBA stipulates that, for a basketball player to receive this distinction, he must play a minimum of 65 games during the regular season. So far, the 76ers center has not participated in 12, so he can not miss more than five more in order to qualify for the MVP.

A few days ago, Embiid entered NBA history against the San Antonio Spurs. Only ten reached that number in an official NBA game - including the milestone that Luka Doncic recorded a few days later.
