Los Angeles Angels player Shohei Ohtani, considered by many to be the best baseball player today, will be out for the remainder of the season due to a right oblique muscle injury. The franchise placed him on the injured list.

The newest injury comes after he fractured a ligament in his right elbow on August 23, which prevented him from pitching. He will undergo surgery, as confirmed in a statement by the Angels' General Manager Perry Minasian:

He's so focused on, 'Season's over, I’ve gotta get ready for '24.' I don’t have details on the procedure, but he wants to get it done as soon as he can.

His agent, Nez Balelo, said Ohtani could be ready to play again on Opening Day 2024. Angels manager Phil Nevin is also confident that Ohtani will return better than ever:

Everything is going to go well for him. He’s going to attack his rehab and come back stronger than ever. I firmly believe that.

Ohtani will be a free agent at the end of the season and there is speculation that he will sign the biggest contract in MLB history.
