New threats against the anti-communist group Shen Yun and its Atlanta show
The U.S.-based cultural group promotes its performances as a portrayal of China “before communism,” while claiming that the threats it has received come from the Chinese Communist Party.
The Shen Yun group has been receiving death threats involving mass shootings at its performances. The U.S.-based group, which promotes Chinese culture before the Chinese Communist Party took over, is scheduled to perform in Atlanta this month.
According to the show's promoters, organizers have received several e-mails threatening to carry out an attack on attendees. Five performances are scheduled between Dec. 23 and 27 at the Atlanta Symphony Hall. The show is billed on its official website as "China Before Communism."
The show, which involves music, dance and many other cultural expressions, is banned in China by the regime. The group has even had to cancel shows in Hong Kong. Its website fell victim to a cyber-attack originating in China back in 2015.
According to the organizers' allegations, the threatening emails are always written in Chinese and include photographs of various firearms, magazines and ammunition. The organizers told Fox that the Chinese Communist Party is behind these threats.
"They've been doing everything they can to sabotage Shen Yun and issue these baseless threats," said Mary Silver from the Falun Dafa Association of Atlanta, which is collaborating with the show. "They have tried many times in the last six months. They have stepped up their activities. But none of Shen Yun's shows have been delayed or canceled because of this," added Frank Xie, also from the Falun Safa Association of Atlanta in remarks to the local Fox network.
The Atalanta Police Department and the FBI have reportedly contacted the show organizers to make initial inquiries about the threats. There are still no statements to be made about the possible investigation.
