The Supreme Court will make a decision on access to the abortion pill mifepristone

The judges will hear the arguments of the Biden Administration and the manufacturer of the drug, who demand that a ruling that would prohibit its use and shipment by mail be revoked. It would also impose other restrictions.

The Supreme Court announced that it will make a decision on whether or not to limit access to the abortion pill mifepristone. With the announcement, the highest court takes into consideration the Biden Administration's attempt to maintain access to the drug and marks a new dispute over abortion since the overturning of Roe v. Wade last year.

The judges will hear arguments from the Government and the drug's manufacturer, who are demanding the reversal of a ruling that would ban the use of mifeprisrone and its mailing. It would also impose other restrictions.

The mifepristone legal battle

In April of this year, the Supreme Court decided to preserve access to mifepristone while the appeal against the approval (it was approved) of the drug by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) was processed in court.

Later, in June, Amarillo (Texas) District Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk suspended the FDA's approval of the drug. The decision was quickly appealed by the Biden Administration. This last appeal filed will be answered by the Court.

Mifepristone is one of two drugs used in a kind of abortion cocktail with which women can terminate a pregnancy with a pill. The other, misoprostol, is still available by traditional prescription.
