A train loaded with propane derails in Florida

Emergency services have not detected any leaks following the accident. No injuries were reported.

A train carrying sheet rock and propane derailed while passing through Manatee County, Florida. Although one of the cars containing 30,000 gallons of the gas was overturned, authorities reported that no leaks or injuries have been reported. The causes of the derailment are under investigation and, at the moment, remain unknown.

Five cars overturned

As a result of the derailment, four other cars, all loaded with slabs of rock, were overturned. A separate car full of propane also derailed but did not overturn. Robert Bounds, chief of the Southern Manatee County Fire Rescue, reported that hazmat teams continue to monitor the area, although, so far, emergency crews haven't detected any leaks:

We have drones. We run the hazmat team for the county of Manatee and we were in the air with our drone which has thermal capabilities. We were able to look at the tank and ascertain the levels of the tank from the outside, it’ll show up different colors if anything is actually leaking. There are no leaks. There are no actual physical damage to the tank other than the rollover, but there is no significant damage to it.

No risk to the population

After analyzing the situation, the authorities decided it wasn't necessary to issue evacuation orders for nearby towns and roads remained open. However, they warned that it might be necessary for neighbors as well as the homeless people living in the vicinity of the accident to leave the area when moving the propane. Heavy machinery was moved to the area, which will also take care of the tank containing the gas.
