Eric Adams calls out the Biden Administration over illegal immigration: "Don't put this burden on our cities"
"El Paso should not be going through this. Washington, Houston, New York, none of our small or large cities should be experiencing this," the NYC mayor stated.
The mayor of New York City, Eric Adams, stated that the huge number of illegal immigrants that have arrived to the city have had a major impact on the safety net and are negatively influencing its economic recovery, so he continues to ask the Biden Administration to help combat this crisis:
It is a major impact, not only to our safety net, but also our recovery coming after the pandemic and making sure we could provide the basic services for everyday New Yorkers.
We need help. And that is why we call on the national government not to place this burden on our cities. El Paso should not be going through this, Washington, Houston, New York, none of our small or large cities should be going through this.
Adams also spoke about the more than 800 asylum seekers who arrived to the city in one day. He said that the people of New York City have welcomed 36,000 people since last spring. When asked about these people's living conditions, the mayor responded:
36,000 people showed up on our doorsteps. And we did what any New Yorker would do, we provided them, not just housing, a place for them to sleep, with food, health care. We educated a substantial of children. And we are also providing the necessary mental health support that is needed.
