Times Square is all set to kick off 2023
The iconic sign and The Ball are ready to welcome the new year in the Big Apple, which will be more crowded than in 2022.
Ten, nine, eight, ... New York is ready to bid farewell to 2022. The famous illuminated sign that will welcome 2023 arrived to Times Square and passersby were able to get their pictures taken next to it before workers put it up at the top of the square.
The sign will feature 60 LED lights and is seven feet tall. We also got to see what The Ball that will end 2022 and ring in the new year will look like.
How many people are estimated to ring in the new year in Times Square?
There are places in the world where the New Year's celebration is very emblematic, such as the Sydney Opera House, Big Ben in London or the Eiffel Tower in Paris. However, they don’t come close to what is experienced in The City That Never Sleeps.
Thousands of people gather in Times Square every year to celebrate the New Year, a moment worth witnessing no matter the temperature or the weather. During the 2022 celebration, it was limited to 15,000 people, a result of coronavirus restrictions. This year, many more people are expected to gather in the Big Apple due to the fact that there will no longer be restrictions due to the virus.
