A package bomb explodes at Northeastern University in Boston

One campus employee was injured. The agents found a second explosive device which they managed to defuse.

An employee at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts, was injured in an explosion Tuesday night after a suspicious package exploded after being opened on campus. The victim suffered minor hand injuries and was later transported to a local hospital.

At around 7:00 p.m., the Boston Bomb Squad, police, fire and EMS responded to the alert and evacuated the building.

Boston Superintendent Felipe Colon confirmed that "a second package was found and rendered safe by our bomb squad."

The incident remains under investigation. The authorities have not yet provided any information on the perpetrators of the incident.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology Police Department has urged the community to be cautious and report any "suspicious packages."
