Police have arrested the suspect suspected of killing six people during the Independence Day parade in Highland Park (Chicago). He is Robert Crimo III, 21, arrested about 5 miles north of the shooting site.
At least six people have been killed and more than 20 injured in the assault. According to local media reports, the shooting occurred 10 minutes after the Fourth of July parade began. The shots, according to several witnesses, were fired from a rooftop. Five people died at the scene and another died in the hospital. They are all adults, although among the victims there is at least one critically injured child.
Highland Park is located 40 kilometers from Chicago and has a population of 30,000. Both here and in other nearby towns in the state of Illinois have decided to cancel 4th of July celebrations.
