SHUTDOWN CONTINUES: Two proposals to reopen the government fail in the Senate
Both parties submitted their own budgets to senators, who voted mostly on party lines.

The Senate failed to pass two budget proposals
The Senate continues to fail to find consensus. On the eighth day of government shutdown, senators gathered in Congress to put two budget proposals to a vote. There was one from each party, and both failed.
Neither budget proposal reached the necessary 60 votes. The Democrats' submission stood at 47 in favor, 52 against. The Republicans' bill fell 54 to 45.
John Fetterman, Catherine Cortez Masto and Angus King were the only Democratic senators who crossed party lines, supporting the GOP plan as early as Monday. On the other side, Kentucky Republican Rand Paul voted against it.
This Wednesday, Sen. Ted Cruz abstained from the vote.
