Biden visited areas affected by 'Milton' in Florida, which left at least 23 dead

The president toured the western coast of the Sunshine State by helicopter and announced a $612 million package of power grid resiliency projects.

President Joe Biden visited Florida to see first hand the damage caused by Hurricane Milton, which has already left at least 23 dead. The leader was pleased that "the impact of the storm was not as cataclysmic as we had predicted," although "for some individuals, it was cataclysmic." After touring several of the affected areas, Biden announced more than $600 million will be invested in power grid resiliency projects. $94 million of that will go to Florida.

No DeSantis but Rick Scott and Anna Paulina Luna accompanied Biden

Biden surveyed the trail of destruction left by Milton from a helicopter, which circled Florida's west coast, from Tampa to St. Petersburg. The president got a bird's-eye view of golf courses, waterfront skyscrapers and entire neighborhoods that were destroyed, including the roof of the Tampa Bay Rays baseball team's Tropicana Stadium.

Although the governor of the Sunshine State, Ron DeSantis did not participate in the visit, Senator Rick Scott and Representative Anna Paulina Luna, represented the a Republican Party. Luna said, "We came together to take care of each other, not as Democrats or Republicans, but as Americans ... We are one United States."

'Milton' leaves $30-60 billion worth of damage

Although Hurricane Milton was less destructive than authorities initially predicted, analysts have estimated it left between $30 billion and $60 billion in damages.
