Biden Administration forces resignation of Customs and Border Protection Commissioner

Chris Magnus resigned from his position less than 24 hours after refusing to do so and denouncing pressure from Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas.

Less than 24 hours after claiming he would not resign, the White House released the resignation letter of Chris Magnus, Commissioner of Customs and Border Protection. Also President Joe Biden's acceptance and thank you missive. Magnus denounced pressure from Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to leave office the day before the midterms.

The President has accepted the resignation of Christopher Magnus, the Commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection.  President Biden appreciates Commissioner Magnus’ nearly forty years of service and the contributions he made to police reform during his tenure as police chief in three U.S. cities.  The President thanks Mr. Magnus for his service at CBP and wishes him well..

Cold statement from the White House

With this brief statement, signed by White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, the Biden Administration dismissed one of its top border officials. Magnus spent the past year dealing with the problems generated by the president and Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas due to their lenient border security policies.

The White House web page also contains Magnus' resignation letter, in which he thanks President Biden for the opportunity and wishes the government well. His resignation is effective immediately.
