Arizona: Trump criticizes Maricopa County over vote count controversy
The former president stated in a post on Truth Social that the elections are "a swindle and an electoral fraud" and that they should be repeated.
Some states are still counting votes four days after the midterms. States such as Arizona, Alaska and Nevada are recounting ballots. Meanwhile, future of state governors, the Senate, and the House of Representatives is still up in the air.
One of the most talked about controversies in this recount had to do with the problems Maricopa County (Arizona) faced while counting votes. Counting is still underway. An estimated 83% of the votes have been counted. This was enough to declare Democrat Mark Kelly winner in the Senate race with 51.8% of the votes compared to Republican Blake Masters' 46.1%. However, former President Donald Trump disagrees with the results and accused the county of committing "voter fraud."
He did so on his social network, Truth Social, where he uploaded an extensive post in which he assured that the elections should be repeated:
The post also mentioned that even Republican gubernatorial Rep. Kari Lake, had been affected by the delays in going to vote and that "others weren't so lucky" while demanding that action be taken. He is convinced that everything that had happened was "a scam and voter fraud, no different than stuffing the ballot boxes."
GOP also calls for transparency
Trump was not the only one to point out the problem detected in Maricopa County. The Republican Party also issued a brief statement calling for more transparency and for votes to be recounted 24 hours a day until the recount was completed:
The RNC and the Republican Party of Arizona demand that around-the-clock shifts of ballot processing be pressed into service until all votes have been counted, accompanied by complete transparency and regular, accurate public updates. We will not hesitate to take legal action if necessary to protect Arizona voters’ right to have their ballots counted.
