Trump-endorsed candidates continue to conquer Republican primaries
Candidates in Wisconsin, Connecticut and Washington join the winning list of Republicans endorsed by the former president.
Candidates endorsed by Donald Trump continue to emerge victorious in the Republican Party primaries across the country. After Arizona, Michigan and Arkansas, the former president's influence in the party continues to be evident three months before the midterms and in the midst of a possible Trump candidacy for the country's presidency in 2024.
In Wisconsin, a state that could swing to either the Democratic or Republican side in the election, Trump-backed candidate Tim Michels won on Tuesday over candidate Rebecca Kleefiscs. Michels, a construction businessman, will face incumbent Democratic Governor Tony Evers in November.
Meanwhile, in Connecticut, the race to be the conservative Senate candidate has been held between Themis Klarides, supported by party figures such as former Vice President Mike Pence, and Leora Levy, the Cuban-rooted candidate backed by Donald Trump. Victory went to the former president's bet.
This Tuesday has also concluded the canvass of the Republican primary held last week in the state of Washington, in which veteran Joe Kent -endorsed by Trump- opposes candidate Jaime Herrera Beutler, one of the Republicans that voted for the impeachment of the ex-president after the assault on the Capitol.
Of the 10 Republican representatives who voted against Trump in 2021, only two will be up for re-election pending confirmation of the more-than-predictable defeat of Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney, which polls show is trailing Harriet Hageman, her Trump-backed challenger in next week's primary for the state's lone House seat.
