Billionaire Shakira attacks capitalism in her latest song
The lyrics written by the Colombian singer raised controversy on social media.
Shakira released a new song and it didn't take long to cause controversy. To the delight of her followers, the Colombian singer published "El Jefe" on Thursday, whose lyrics are dedicated to her ex-partner, Gerard Piqué . The lyrics are full of darts against the now businessman, but she also had the pleasure of throwing a couple at capitalism.
In her latest release, the former The Voice jury slipped hidden messages, hints and other not-so-hidden statements. She begins by describing a typical day, which has a routine that she doesn't particularly like: taking the kids to school, doing the day's chores, and then starting over.
One of the most commented verses was one in which she appears to attack her former father-in-law, Joan Pique. "They say that there is no evil that lasts more than a hundred years. But there is still my ex-father-in-law who does not set foot in the grave," says the singer-songwriter. Precisely, in that part of the video clip, the dancers cover their mouths, thus increasing the controversy of the phrase.
In turn, the Colombian singer leaked a couple of messages against upward social mobility and meritocracy. "The bills pile up, being poor is rubbish. Mom always told me that studying everything is safe. I studied and nothing happened," is heard in part of the song.
Users on social media did not take long to discover those implicit attacks on capitalism that coexist in the lyrics of the song. For example, Carlos wrote "Shakira read the textbooks of the New Mexican School and after that, made an anti-boss song, critical of greedy capitalism and aspirationism. I have no proof, but I have no doubts either."
Elivelton interpreted the same thing, but in their opinion, the singer is completely correct. "My Shaki is a politically intelligent person, who does social work and who understands that capitalism is an unjust system. 'El Jefe' is once again a work in which she states her message! I love you," they wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The complete lyrics of Shakira's new song
Seven thirty the alarm has sounded
I want to be in bed
But it can not be done
I take the kids at nine
The same coffee, the same cuisine
The same old thing, the same routine
another shitty day
Another day at the office
I have a shitty boss who doesn't pay me well.
I arrive walking and he arrives in a Mercedes Benz.
He has me as a recruit
The son of a bitch, yes
Are you dreaming of leaving the neighborhood?
You have everything to be a millionaire
Expensive tastes, the mentality
You only need the salary
Bills pile up, being poor is rubbish
Mom always told me that studying everything ensures
I studied and nothing happened, damn life so hard
I work harder than a bastard, but f*** less than a priest
What irony, what madness, this is torture
You kill yourself from dawn to dusk and you don't even have a writing
They say that there is no evil that lasts more than a hundred years
But there is still my ex-father-in-law who has not set foot in the grave.
