Diego Luna and Gael García Bernal make Emmy history by presenting in Spanish
The Mexican actors delivered a special message to the "more than 50 million who speak Spanish in this country."
"Buenas noches (good evening)," saluted Mexican actor Diego Luna in an unprecedented moment as he presented the award for Outstanding Directing for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie at the 2024 Emmy Awards.
"A salute to those who speak Spanish in this room and to the more than 50 million who speak Spanish in this country," said the actor as he was met with a roaring applause.
Standing next to him was Gael García Bernal, who seconds before explained that due to the loss of audience, "Diego" and he had decided to "do something to push the limits."
Luna and Bernal, who will appear together in the Disney+ series The Machine, introduced the various nominees and announced the winner, Steven Zaillian for Ripley, all in Spanish.
