Bad Bunny shines with three Grammy nominations
Hispanic artists rack up nominations for music's most prestigious awards at a gala co-hosted by Luis Fonsi.
Hispanic artists are shining bright among the nominees for the 2023 Grammy Awards. The importance of this community in the recording industry was evident even from the selection of the presenters of the event, which includes Luis Fonsi. Bad Bunny is the Latin artist with the most nominations (three). Alongside him appear more established artists such as Rosalía, Christina Aguilera, Camila Cabello or Sebastián Yatra.
The Puerto Rican singer will compete for an award in the categories of Best Album of the Year, Best Urban Music Album and Best Solo Performance. He will be up against artists such as Beyoncé -the night's big winner with 9 nominations, equaling her husband Jay Z's 88 career nominations-, and Harry Styles, among others.
The Best Urban Music Album category is almost entirely dominated by hispanic power. Along with Bad Bunny, Rauw Alejandro with Trap Cake Vol.2, Legendaddy by the considered King of Reggaeton Daddy Yankee, Farruko with La 167 and The love & sex tape by Maluma are candidates.
Best Latin Pop Album nominees are, Christina Aguilera with Aguilera, Pasieros by Panamanian singer Rubén Blades, De Adentro Pa Afuera by Camilo, Colombian singer-songwriter Fonseca with Viajante and Dharma by Sebastián Yatra.
El alimento by Cimafunk, Tinta y tiempo by Uruguayan Jorge Drexler, Mon Laferte with her album 1940 Carmen, Alegoría by Gaby Moreno and Los años salvajes by Fito Páez will compete for Best Latin Rock and Alternative Album.
In the Best Regional Mexican Music Album category are Abeja Reina by Chiquis, Natalia Lafourcade for Un canto para México, La reunión by Los Tigres del Norte, EP #1 Forajido by Sonora's Christian Nodal and Marco Antonio Solís with Que ganas de verte.
As for Best Tropical Album, the nominees include Marc Anthony for Pa'alla voy , Quiero verte feliz by the Mexican-American band La Santa Cecilia, Legendario by Tito Nieves and Cumbiana II by Carlos Vives.
The nomination for Best Latin Jazz Album features, Fandango at wall in New York by Mexico's Arturo O'Farrell, Crisálida by Danilo Pérez in collaboration with The Global Messengers, Rhythm & Soul by Cuban musician Arturo Sandoval and Música de las Américas by Puerto Rico's Miguel Zenón.
In addition, Camila Cabello has been nominated in the Best Pop Duo catagory for the song Bam Bam, which she did in collaboration with Ed Sheeran, where the Cuban also sings verses in Spanish in some parts of the song.
