Novak Djokovic is once again the best tennis player in the world. The Serbian defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece in the final of the Australian Open in three sets (6-3, 7-6, 7-6) and returns to the first position of the ATP ranking -a position that belonged to the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz-, which he lost on June 13 last year.

With this victory, the Balkan tennis player has now won 22 Grand Slams, the same number as Spain's Rafael Nadal. Both are two away from tying the all-time record held by Britain's Margaret Court.

In last year's edition of the Australian Open, Djokovic was unable to retain the title he had won 3 times back to back between 2019 and 2021. His abscence in 2022 was due to his refusal to be vaccinated against the coronavirus, the tournament organizers and the Australian government banned him from the Grand Slam and he had to remain isolated in a hotel in Melbourne (Australia) until his case was deliberated. Days later, the courts ordered his release and the authorities had to pay the legal expenses of the current world number one. Upon his return to Monte Carlo (Monaco), where he resides, he admitted that he unintentionally broke the rules of confinement: he claimed that his agent made a "human error."
With the elimination of the measures against the coronavirus in Australia, Djokovic returned to play the first of the years four Grand Slams with an outstanding level of play that has put him back at the top of world tennis.
