AOC blames capitalism for young people's childlessness and calls for more immigration

The congresswoman believes that the arrival of immigrants will contribute to an increase in birth rates.

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez expressed that more immigration is a solution to declining national birth rates, after arguing that young people are not having children due to the "burdens of capitalism," Fox News reported Thursday picking up a post by the congresswoman on Instagram.

"There are quite a few countries that are really struggling because young people under the burdens of capitalism, living in a society where more and more wealth is concentrated among the rich, we are not having children," Ocasio-Cortez said, adding:

In reality, we need immigrant populations to help balance things out. We can't keep funding social security, Medicare, all these things without immigrants. And it has always been that way. Don't act like this is a new trend or something."

The U.S. birth rate fell 4% in 2020, the largest annual decline in nearly 50 years.

AOC's message calling for more immigrants coincides with one of the most complicated immigration crises in the country's history. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reported that 2,493,723 illegal immigrants were apprehended in the current fiscal year. 2,150,244 of them were apprehended at the southern border.
