Actor Keith Jefferson dies at 53

The actor, who was a longtime friend of Jamie Foxx, appeared in movies such as 'Django Unchained,' 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood' and 'The Hateful Eight.'

Actor Keith Jefferson died this Thursday at the age of 53 after a long fight against cancer. He was diagnosed last August and he announced the news on social media. His agent, Nicole St. John, confirmed the sad news to The Hollywood Reporter, the first media outlet to report his death:

I am deeply saddened by Keith’s passing. He was a tremendous talent and it is a profound loss to the artistic community. He had several projects in the pipeline and was in the midst of a project that captured his unique and resonant voice. He had been looking forward to returning in the new year. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and close friends.

The actor was one of director Quentin Tarantino's regulars. He was in movies such as "Django Unchained," where he played Pudgy Ralph, as well as "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" and "The Hateful Eight."

Jamie Foxx, Keith Jefferson's longtime friend

Jefferson was a longtime friend of Jamie Foxx. They both met while studying acting at the University of Arizona in the 90s and remained close friends. In fact, Jefferson became a recurring character in Jamie Foxx's projects. He appeared in two of the actor's latest projects, "Bosh: Legacy" and "The Burial," a movie that will be released later this year.

Foxx did not miss his chance to pay tribute to his friend. He did so through two messages he posted on his Instagram account. He claimed that it would take "a long time" to recover from this loss:
