'Oppenheimer' earns most nominations at the 96th Oscars

The Oscar race has begun. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has just announced the nominees for the 96th edition of the Oscars at a press event hosted by the actress Zazie Beetz ("Atlanta," "Deadpool 2") and actor Jack Quaid ("The Boys," "Scream") that took place at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater located in Beverly Hills in Los Angeles.

As with the Golden Globes, Christopher Nolan's feature film, "Oppenheimer," is the favorite, earning a total of 13 nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director categories. What became its sort of sister film, "Barbie," did not go unnoticed. Despite achieving fewer nominations than Nolan's film, Greta Gerwig and her film earned a total of 8 nominations, including Best Picture and Best Supporting Actor for Ryan Gosling.

Hispanic representation is also guaranteed in the next edition of the awards. Spanish director Juan Antonio Bayona achieved his first Oscar nomination thanks to his film "Society of the Snow." The feature film produced by Netflix was among those chosen for Best International Feature Film after also obtaining a nomination in this same category at the BAFTAs. It was not the only category, Bayona's film also earned a nomination in the Best Makeup and Hairstyling category.

The Oscars will be held next Sunday, March 10, at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles in a gala presented by comedian Jimmy Kimmel that will be broadcast on ABC. The films nominated in this 96th edition are the following:
