Marianne Williamson drops out of Democratic presidential race

Oprah Winfrey's former spiritual guru announced her decision after her crushing defeat in Nevada.

Self-help guru Marianne Williamson announced she is withdrawing from the Democratic presidential campaign following the results of the Nevada primary. Williamson had 3% of the vote and was overwhelmingly defeated not only by Joe Biden (90% of the ballots) but even by the "none of the candidates" option.

Bad results for Williamson in New Hampshire and South Carolina

Oprah Winfrey's former spiritual guru was already considering dropping out of the race after New Hampshire, when, without Biden on the official ballots, she barely got 5,000 votes. The next stop was South Carolina. According to the National Democratic Committee's calendar, this was the party's first official primary and it did not help her situation either. She only won 2% of the vote. She wrote that she "had to decide whether now is the time for a dignified exit or continue on our campaign journey."

Nevada helped her settle that dilemma. After thanking her followers for their support in a video, Williamson said, "We did what we could to shed some light in some very darkened times. For that, I will always be so grateful." She is pleased that her campaign and proposals could help "future candidates," stressing that, "While we did not succeed at running a winning political campaign, I know in my heart that we impacted the political ethers."

I hope future candidates will take what works for them, drinking from the well of information we prepared. My team and I brought to the table some great ideas, and I will take pleasure when I see them live on in campaigns and candidates yet to be created.
