Joy at the gas station: happy hour brings back pre-Biden prices

A non-profit organization travels around 60 cities in the country offering gasoline at $2.38 per gallon.

Americans for Prosperity held a rally this week in Dallas selling gasoline at pre-Biden prices. The nonprofit organization says these initiatives are meant to counteract the effect of Washington's misguided economic policies. Gasoline was selling for $2.38 a gallon for an hour during lunch.

High fuel prices are not significantly decreasing in the country. The national average cost of gasoline had not fallen below US$4 per gallon for four months. In June it increased to a record of $5 per gallon. This forced many people to change their lifestyle and prioritize basic expenses such as food and housing. Many did not use their cars or means of transportation because of the high prices.

Voz Media attended the event

Voz Media reporter Flor Robledo went to the Fuel City gas station in Dallas, where dozens of drivers lined up for a chance to save money on fuel. Event sponsor Lee Vigil noted that "the idea is to help people and give gas for the same price as on President Biden's first day in office."

Many citizens were astonished to see the price of fuel. They all pointed out that the rise in gasoline prices caused them to change their way of life, having to prioritize more important expenses. The gas station's public relations manager, Deysi Flores, said: "It is a concern, because one begins to think about gas or food... there are more necessary things, although gas is important.”

One of the consumers recalled his arrival in Dallas 26 years ago, when a gallon of gas went for 70 cents, in his words. Other users said they did not have enough money to pay their debts and appreciated the Americans for Prosperity initiative.

Help against inflation in 60 cities

Americans for Prosperity is a nonprofit political organization founded by brothers David and Charles Koch. Dedicated to promoting entrepreneurship and providing ideas for reducing government regulation in the economy.

The group is dedicated to carrying out this type of initiative throughout the country.  The True Cost of Washington according to its website, is a movement to reduce the cost of living that offers solutions to counteract the effects of inflation and inform citizens what out-of-control government spending is causing. It will mobilize in 60 cities across the country and one of its goals is: "Together, convince Washington to end waste, unleash abundance and ignite innovation."
