Fauci to retire when Biden's term ends

The president's controversial medical advisor believes "we're going to live" with the coronavirus.

Anthony Fauci, medical advisor to the President of the United States and the doctor behind the policies to counter the coronavirus, announced that he will step down at the end of the current term of the Biden Administration, as reported by Politico.

Fauci has worked under seven different Administrations. He recently stated in an interview on Fox News' Your World that the covid-19 vaccines do not protect "too well". Despite all this, he is one of the biggest advocates for coronavirus vaccination.

"My message to people who have doubts about why people who are vaccinated get infected is this: vaccines help us because, if you weren't vaccinated, it's quite a bit more likely that you would have had a more severe course than what you have when you're vaccinated."

Fauci is Biden's chief medical advisor and has been director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases for decades. He detailed that he does not currently have an exact retirement date in mind and explained to CNN that he wants to pursue other career opportunities once he leaves his current position.

"By the time we get to the end of Biden's first term, I will most likely retire," Fauci said.

"I think we're going to live with this"

Fauci told Politico that he does not expect to remain in government until the coronavirus is eradicated because he believes it is going to be around for a long time:

"If someone says, 'You'll leave when there's no more covid,' then I'll be 105 years old. I think we are going to live with this",said Fauci.

The scientist believes that, in order to control the virus,  an annual booster dose will have to be given, as in the case of the flu vaccine.

During the Trump administration, Fauci and the Republican president publicly disagreed on how to deal with the pandemic and on what was the right message for the American people and to prevent new contagions.

During his years as director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Anthony Fauci has been involved in the fight against AIDS, Ebola, Zika and anthrax.
