(AFP/VOZ MEDIA) One person was killed and several others injured due to "heavy turbulence" on a Singapore Airlines flight from London to Singapore, which had to be diverted to Bangkok, the company said Tuesday.

The company did not specify how many people were injured, nor their severity and did not detail whether the deceased was a passenger or a crew member.

Singapore Airlines reported that flight SQ321, which took off from London's Heathrow airport, recorded "heavy turbulence" and was diverted to the Thai capital, where it landed at 15H45 local time (08H45 GMT) on Tuesday.

"We are working with the authorities in Thailand to provide the necessary medical care and are sending a team to Bangkok to deliver any additional assistance required," the airline added.

The aircraft operating flight SQ321 was 16 years old, and is one of Singapore Air’s 23 777-300ERs. Boeing didn’t immediately have a comment on the incident.
