El Salvador: The left criticizes the government's decision to take down statue of mass murderer Che Guevara

The progressive political party Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front in El Salvador (FMLN) is outraged that local officials took down a statue of Ernesto Che Guevara. The FMLN party claimed that the decision to take down the statue was made by the mayor of Chalchuapa, Jorge Morán, who belongs to the New Ideas party founded by Nayib Bukele.
FMLN Deputy Jaime Guevara described the decision as an act of "fascism" and said it was part of the New Ideas party's policy of "hatred and intolerance." Guevara claims that the party wants to get rid of any progressive symbols.
"Why does the government's hateful policies aim to erase the symbols of the left, to erase the history of the people?" Guevara said in a video posted on his X account (formerly Twitter).
The FMLN party also criticized the mayor's decision. The party posted the following statement on Instagram: "It is outrageous, totally reprehensible and another example of how disastrous the far-right government of Bukele and his supporters are."
