New attack in Ecuador: shots fired at Estefany Puente, candidate for the National Assembly
The attempted assassination took place just 24 hours after the assassination of presidential candidate Fernando Villavicencio.
Estefany Puente, candidate for Ecuador's National Assembly, was the victim of an armed attack one day after the assassination of presidential candidate Fernando Villavicencio.
According to local newspaper El Universo, the candidate for the Ecuadorian legislature was traveling in her vehicle when she was stopped by two men on a motorcycle. At least two shots were fired. Puente was traveling with her father and a campaign collaborator, and it appears that the shots only grazed the candidate's arm.
According to Ecuadorian media reports, one of the men shot at the car on the driver's side, hitting the windshield and then fled. Images circulating on social media show the windshield of the vehicle destroyed by bullets and broken glass scattered on the ground.
Estefany Puente is a candidate for the 2 - 17 - 20 alliance, whose main candidate is Eduardo Mendoza Palma, brother of Patricio Mendoza Palma, a politician assassinated in December 2021.
