Spain: Court overturns Dani Alves' sexual assault conviction after 430 days in custody
The four appellate judges unanimously ruled in favor of the former footballer, overturning the conviction due to “gaps, imprecisions, inconsistencies, and contradictions in the facts, legal assessment, and consequences.”

Dani Alves
The Spanish judiciary reported that an appeals court overturned the 4 years and 6 months jail sentence for sexual assault of former Brazilian soccer player Dani Alves.
In a statement, the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia - a Spanish regional court - reported that the four judges of the appeals court unanimously ruled in favor of the former footballer, overturning the conviction due to "gaps, inaccuracies, inconsistencies and contradictions about the facts, the legal assessment and its consequences."
The appeals court also speaks in its decision of "evidentiary insufficiencies."
Therefore, the judges acquitted the former Barça player, who was already on probation pending the resolution of the appeal, and annulled the precautionary measures.
14 months in prison
The appeals court rejected the appeals of the prosecution, which asked to increase the sentence to 9 years, and of the private prosecution, which requested 12 years.
