Formula 1 arrives in Madrid

It's now official, the Formula 1 championship will arrive in Madrid. The capital of Spain will become one of the largest stages of the F1 world circuit. As now confirmed, Madrid will hold the Spanish Formula 1 Grand Prix from 2026 to 2035, as announced this Tuesday by the organization of the premier motorsport category.

Formula 1 announced in a statement that "the Spanish Grand Prix will be held in Madrid from 2026 to 2035, both inclusive," on a "completely new" circuit that will incorporate "both urban and non-urban sections."

As announced this Thursday by the Madrid authorities, the new Spanish Grand Prix will take place around the IFEMA international exhibition center and will have an extension of 5.47 kilometers (about 3.4 miles). The circuit is designed with a layout of 20 curves to speed up the race. In this context, it is expected that a lap can be completed in 1 minute and 32 seconds.

To accommodate the Spanish Grand Prix, the Madrid circuit is preparing for a major expansion, with the intention of hosting 110,000 fans per day, with a future projection to expand the circuit's capacity to 140,000 spectators.
