Many residents of Texas will need a coat and an umbrella in the coming days. The National Weather Service (NWS) forecast rain for the weekend, along with a cold front that will move in starting this Thursday across much of the state, specifically in the central and northern regions.

On social media, the NWS office in Fort Worth reported the arrival of wind gusts of 10–15 mph that will bring the cold. It also noted the possibility that rainfall could leave the ground waterlogged.

"A cold front moves through North & Central Texas this afternoon/evening. Most areas stay dry, but a few showers are possible mainly 5 PM–Midnight. Rain chances remain low at 10–20%. Breezy north winds 10-15 mph and cooler, drier air follow tonight," said the NWS in its statement.

In another report, the weather agency noted that "rain chances increase this weekend," mainly in central Texas, "while most of North Texas stays dry. Expect highs in the 60s and overnight lows in the 40s."

In Houston and surrounding areas, the forecast is similar, with rain expected to make an appearance on Sunday. "Most areas will top out in the 80s today, but a cold front pushes through late tonight/early Friday and brings back more seasonal temperatures. Cooler air prevails thru the weekend and into next week. We continue to monitor increasing rain chances Sunday into Monday," said the NWS. The same conditions are expected in San Antonio and Austin.

Rain is moving out of Florida

After several days of heavy rainfall that forced Governor Ron DeSantis to declare a state of emergency in several counties and caused significant flooding, southern Florida can breathe a sigh of relief. The forecast for the coming days is better, with rising temperatures and clearing skies.

"Cloud cover will diminish and drier conditions will develop across South Florida today. Winds become generally light from the east-northeast," explained the NWS office in Miami.

Further north, near Orlando, some precipitation could still occur, according to the weather agency, although it will be less intense and temperatures will be higher.

Bitter cold in Chicago, mild weather in New York

In Chicago, temperatures will plummet. The NWS announced that "a fairly strong cold front will move through the area and bring the first wave of late-fall temperatures so far this season," adding that "strong northerly winds will set in and persist through Friday."

"It is likely that sub-freezing temperatures inland, beyond Lake Michigan, from Friday night through early Saturday morning, but the weather will return to mild conditions between Sunday and Monday," the agency added.

Finally, in New York, the weather will be much more pleasant. "Morning temperatures are already 5 to 10 degrees above what normal highs should be for this time of year (upper 50s). Mostly cloudy skies will prevent temperatures from rising too much," the NWS noted.
