According to monthly data provided by the Border Patrol to Fox News, December has already set the monthly high for illegal immigrant entries across the southern border in 2023. Before the end of the month, the number of illegal migrant encounters has exceeded the previous high of September in what has been a record year for illegal immigration.

According to the Border Patrol, more than 276,000 illegal migrants crossed the southern border between Dec. 1 and 27. There are over 7,000 more people than September, and the last four days of 2023 still have yet to be counted. This data does not include legal entries.

Immigrant inflows increased considerably leading up to Christmas, starting on Dec. 14. From then until Dec. 20, authorities estimate that around 9,770 encounters were made with illegal immigrants who arrived at the southern border. Most of these encounters took place in Arizona and Texas.
