Missing F-35 pilot landed in South Carolina residential yard
Debris from the F-35 plane was found Monday in Williamsburg County.
The pilot of the F-35 fighter jet that was lost in South Carolina parachuted into a residential yard in the state. The man, who has not been identified by the Marine Corps, did not suffer serious injuries and was released from the hospital.
"The stealth fighter pilot parachuted safely into the backyard of a home in South Carolina after a malfunction forced him to eject from the aircraft, causing the plane to crash into a wooded area about 60 miles away.," explained AP.
The F-35 plane that had been lost in Charleston was finally found after a few hours of searching and almost desperation on the part of the authorities, who even asked for citizen collaboration to locate it. The remains were found in Williamsburg County.
Eric Smith, acting commander of the United States Marine Corps, had ordered all military aircraft to remain down for the next two days.
"This pause is being adopted to ensure that the service maintains operational normalization of combat-ready aircraft with well-prepared pilots and crews," Smith said in a statement.
Military officials did not clarify what kind of problem caused the pilot to make the decision to eject from the vehicle. The only thing that has transpired is that the F-35 had suffered a "mishap" that caused the unnamed pilot from the Marine Corps to abandon his aircraft.
