'Try That in a Small Town': National Police Association calls for investigation into 2020 BLM riots, capitalizing on song's success
The song reached number one on iTunes and YouTube a week after CMT removed the music video.
"Try That in a Small Town" by Jason Aldean has become a hot topic in the past week, despite having been played on music channels and platforms since May. After CMT removed the music video, the song climbed to number one on iTunes and YouTube, surpassing 8 million views on the latter.
Taking advantage of the spotlight the song shone on the issue of violent protests and public safety, the National Police Association made a special appeal to House Speaker Kevin McCarthy:
The poll in question was released in 2021, after it became known that the Democrats had created a committee to investigate the events of Jan. 6.
Sixty-six percent of voters thought Congress should investigate "[2020's] violent protests, in which more than 2,000 police officers were injured in the line of duty." Twenty-one percent were opposed, and 13% were neither for nor against.
Kevin McCarthy, for the time being, has not responded to the request.
