Joe Biden will allow 30,000 Mexican immigrants to enter the United States legally each month through an app called Customs and Border Protection One (CBP One). The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will enable foreign nationals to enter the USA from Mexico. This measure comes at a time when citizens are criticizing the president for his immigration management.

Not all Mexicans wishing to enter the U.S. will benefit from this app: only pregnant women, the mentally ill, the elderly, the disabled, the homeless and victims of crime. Entry is allowed for humanitarian exemptions to Title 42. Those who cross the border illegally without having used the app will face the same consequences as before: detention and deportation.

Through CBP One, these immigrants will be able to make an appointment with the Border Patrol to enter the U.S. Once they meet with border agents, they will have to appear at eight specific border checkpoints in Arizona, Texas and California.

CBP One increases the number of immigrants entering the U.S.

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) launched CBP One in October 2020. So far, about 20,000 immigrants have been admitted through this app, approximately 740 people per day. Now, the Biden Administration is increasing the number of foreigners that will benefit from the measure to 1,000 per day, officials told CBS News.

Angela Kelly, who was a senior DHS official until May 2022, said, "The Administration is trying to figure out what the secret legal formula is to apply for asylum and have people wait and try to cross legally, rather than through the mafias."

In the current fiscal year - which began on October 1, 2002 - Border Patrol has apprehended more than one million illegal immigrants attempting to cross the southern border. In the 2020 fiscal year, Customs and Border agents apprehended 400,000 illegals, a figure that ballooned to 1.6 million in 2021 and 2.2 million in 2022.
