Biden's approval rating on immigration plummets
According to a survey, 47% of Americans say that the immigration situation has worsened during the president's term in office.
Nearly half of citizens (47%) say that the management of the immigration situation has worsened under Joe Biden, compared to 32% who said it was the same as under Donald Trump.
According to a Morning Consult poll, more and more Americans are becoming critical of the president's immigration policy. In 2021, after Biden had been in office for two months, 40% disapproved of his management of immigration. Two years later, the percentage of those dissatisfied has grown by seven points. The percentage of citizens who rate it as good dropped from 23% in 2021 to 20% in 2023.
In contrast, the perception of Trump's job on immigration has improved from 2021 to today. Two years ago, 40% said that the former president did a bad job; now, just 32% say so. In 2021, 40% of respondents were satisfied Trump's job on the issue, while today 44% say so.
Since Biden took office, more than 5.5 million illegal immigrants have crossed the border, creating a border crisis at the southern border of the United States. So far this fiscal year, which began on Oct. 1, 2023, authorities have apprehended more than 1 million people trying to enter the country illegally. This figure is approaching that of fiscal year 2021, which saw 1.6 million encounters with illegals, and, at this rate, may surpass the figure recorded in fiscal 2022 of 2.2 million. The problem is not only in the south; entry of illegals through the northern border increased by 846% in the last fiscal year.
CBP demands more resources and more attention
Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has denounced, on numerous occasions, the passivity of the Biden administration regarding the border crisis and has asked repeatedly for more resources to stop the waves of illegal immigration.
CBP also notes that the number of assaults on border agents has increased. More and more military-age men are being apprehended by border agents, which has increased the number of cases of aggression against the security forces.
As if that were not enough, cartel activity and drug and human traffickers have increased in the face of Biden's lax attitude on immigration. Seizures of narcotic substances, including the lethal opioid fentanyl, continue to grow.
