The shadow of socialism is spreading: Four of the country's most populous cities are now under its control

The victories of DSA members Nithya Ramanen in Los Angeles and Janeese Lewis George in Washington, D.C., join those of Mamdani in New York and Katie B. Wilson in Seattle.

*** Translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator (free version) ***

The shadow of socialism is spreading across the country and at all levels of government. In addition to the high-profile victories of radicals in Senate and House races, we must also note that four of the 20 most populous cities, including the top two on the list, are now led by socialist mayors following the midterms.

And the fact is that the election of Nithya Ramanen and Janeese Lewis George, both members of the DSA, in Los Angeles and Washington, D.C., respectively, adds to Zoran Mamdani in New York and Katie Wilson in Seattle.

Nearly 14 million people under socialist mayors

This means that nearly 14 million Americans are governed by members of this strongly interventionist ideology in politics, the economy and social affairs.

After defeating the current and controversial mayor in a close election Karen Bass, Ramanen is now in charge of the day-to-day operations of more than some 4 million Angelenos in the country's second-most-populous city.

For his part, Lewis George will lead the administration serving the 700,000 residents in the nation's capital after sweeping aside his rivals with nearly 85% of the vote.

The two most populous cities, led by socialist mayors

However, the most populous city under socialist leadership is New York, with more than 8.5 million residents, making it the most populous city in the country, with a population larger than the other three combined.

In his case, the shift toward socialism came a year ago, when Mamdani defeated Andrew Cuomo.

At the very same moment that Katie Wilson became mayor of Seattle and its nearly 800,000 residents.

Up to 44 million people will be affected by the policies of socialist mayors

It should be noted that the figures provided do not include residents of the adjacent outlying neighborhoods, who will also feel the effects of the policies implemented within the cities regarding crime, property values and the overall business climate.

If we add the populations of the cities and their surrounding areas, we're talking about nearly 44 million people who will be affected by socialist policies.

Furthermore, although he is not formally a member of the DSA and does not consider himself a socialist, it is worth noting that the mayor of the country's third-largest city by population (2,727,758), Chicago, is in the hands of a radical leftist, Mayor Brandon Johnson.

Polls point to a strong surge in support for socialism across the country

In September, a Gallup poll indicated that 43% of voters viewed socialism favorably, the highest level since the polling firm began tracking the issue in 2010.

These figures are in line with a recent national poll by Fox News, which concluded that 32% of Americans had a favorable view of socialism. As with Gallup, this is the highest figure ever recorded by this polling firm.
