There will be a duel: DeSantis agrees to debate Newsom
Representatives of two antagonistic models of politics and ideology will meet in November on neutral ground.
There will be mourning. The expected encounter between two totally opposite political models will be measured face to face after the governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, accepted the proposal of his counterpart in California, Gavin Newsom, to hold a debate between the two. The dialectical battle between the two politicians will be the culmination of a long road of disagreements and cross-statements in defense and against Woke policies and ideology and on the management of illegal immigration.
"They’ve been voting on it with their feet"
DeSantis picked up the gauntlet during an interview with Sean Hannity on Fox. The candidate to represent the Republican Party in the 2024 presidential election said that, in reality, this is a debate that citizens have already weighed in on, and their answer is seen in the mass departure from California to Florida and Texas, far from the radical leftist policies of Newsom and his taxes.
"A debate for the future of our country"
In addition, DeSantis boasted about the state of the Golden State right now, after his first term and just beginning his second term: "We have the number one ranked economy. Number one now in education. Crime rate at a 50-year low." On the opposite side, California sees a high number of businesses leaving the Golden State and many of its cities have high rates of violent crime.
But, above all, DeSantis pointed out that it will be a debate "for the future of our country." A future that may go beyond ideology if, as the Floridian insinuates, Joe Biden does not win the Democratic Party's nomination for president. Newsom, despite not having applied, is one of the great assets of the blue formation.
Newsom vs. DeSantis, a long road of disagreements and criticisms
Newsom threw down the gauntlet last fall, and since then, statements and cross-criticism between him and DeSantis have been a constant. According to a spokesman for the Californian governor, the meeting could take place between November 8 and 10, with Nevada, Georgia or North Carolina as a neutral venue. The teams of both must finalize details such as whether there will be an audience or whether a 90-minute format broadcast on Fox will be established.
But above all, it remains to be seen if Newsom will wear his hair gel and DeSantis his hairspray as proposed by the Californian when launching the challenge.
