Hunter Biden made his first appearance after pleading guilty to two minor cases involving tax evasion and purchasing and possessing a firearm. The President’s son participated in the state dinner hosted by the White House to host the President of India, Narendra Modi. The funny thing? Merrick Garland and Kevin McCarthy also participated in the event.

In other words, Hunter Biden dined with one of his leading critics, the current Speaker of the House of Representatives, who criticized the double standards of the Justice Department and suggested further investigation into the activities of the President’s son. For McCarthy, the case “continues to show the two-tier system in America. If you are the President’s leading political opponent, the DOJ tries to literally put you in jail and give you prison time. But if you are the President’s son, you get a sweetheart deal.”

When asked about the situation, the Speaker dodged the question. “I look forward to taking my daughter-in-law for the very first time to the White House. Every state dinner I brought another member of my family,” he told a reporter.

At the same time, he shared space with Garland, who is the focus of much criticism within the GOP, first for the indictment of Donald Trump and second for the plea deal he struck with Biden’s son.

“Hunter Biden is charged with two offenses for failure to pay income tax and one offense for unlawful possession of a firearm by a prohibited person,” the Delaware U.S. Attorney’s Office said of the President’s son’s case.

Biden toasted Modi at the lavish event held in a tent on the South Lawn, overlooking the Washington Monument and the White House. “I’ve been doing this for a long time, but I can never remember anyone receiving a warmer welcome than this man here,” the President said.

He also praised the countries’ commitment to democracy and celebrated the achievements of both in “the arts, education, media, law, medicine and science, and businesses of all sizes, in spelling bee champions and even cricket clubs around the world, the country, even in my home state of Delaware.”

As for the decorations, the tables were adorned with dark green and pale blue tablecloths, garnished with pink and orange flowers, candles and lotus flower symbols, all by the White House team in conjunction with David Stark Design and Production.

The dinner was planned weeks ago and was attended by federal government officials, members of Congress, ambassadors and prominent personalities such as Apple’s Tim Cook, Martin Luther King III, M. Night Shyamalan, Ralph Lauren and Billie Jean King.
