Ilhan Omar celebrates her victory in the midterm elections with her team
The majority of voters in Minnesota's 5th Congressional District chose to support Ilhan Omar despite all the controversies surrounding her. The representative, a member of the most radical wing of the Democratic Party, managed to defeat her Republican opponent in the midterm elections by a landslide margin.
On Tuesday, Ilhan Omar won the support of 76.48% of the electorate (263,166 votes with 99% of the votes counted), which will allow her to retain her seat in the House of Representatives for another two years. This result is very similar to the ones she achieved in the other four elections in which she ran.
With the vote count well underway, the Democratic representative, a member of the radical group known as The Squad, expressed her gratitude for the trust that three out of every four voters placed in her, while sending a direct message to President Donald Trump.
"Thank you, Minnesota! I’m incredibly honored to continue to represent you in the People’s House with a resounding mandate," wrote Ilhan Omar on her X profile. "We will not allow Trump to silence us."
The radical congresswoman accompanied her remarks with a photo showing her alongside several members of her team celebrating her victory in the midterm elections.
Her main opponent in this election, Republican John Nagel, garnered just 16.22% of the vote (55,805 votes). As of now, Nagel has not reacted to this result.
Ilhan Omar's victory in the midterm elections boils down to a single statement: voters in the 5th Congressional District preferred to keep someone like her as their voice in Congress despite her involvement in various controversies of various kinds.
In recent months, Ilhan Omar has been in the crosshairs due to her alleged ties to the Somali terrorist group Al-Shabaab or for the alleged crime of immigration fraud for which she is under investigation, among other controversies.
