Former Vice President Mike Pence filed the necessary paperwork with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) to be eligible to run in the 2024 presidential election. Thus, Pence is set to join the Republican Party primaries. Rumors began to surface of Pence’s candidacy a few weeks ago when sources close to his family told the media he would run.

Prior to this, some media outlets noted Pence's visits to states such as New Hampshire and Iowa and the potential creation of a super PAC in support of the former vice president as evidence of his candidacy.

According to Just The News, Pence will launch his campaign this Wednesday, which coincides with his birthday. The announcement will take place in Des Moines, Iowa. According to polls, Mike Pence would fall behind Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis in the GOP primary race. Morning Consult polls give him just 5% of the primary vote, compared to 56% for Trump and 22% for DeSantis. Some polls give him even worse ratings than Nikki Hailey.

The former Indiana governor abandoned his presidential campaign in 2016 when he agreed to be Donald Trump’s vice president. Pence significantly distanced himself from Trump as a result of the Capitol riots of Jan. 6, 2021z Pence has also positioned himself in favor of military support for Ukraine, which he considers a key issue in U.S. foreign policy.
